Do I need a Life or Professional Coach?

Since you are on this website, you probably have some interest in the benefits of coaching. We recommend you take our brief Self-Assessment Questionnaire to see if you could benefit from a Life/Professional Coach.

What is a life/professional coach?

A life/professional coach specializes in identifying your barriers and potential.  The coach helps individuals tap into undiscovered areas.  They are also your partner to assist with staying on task with identified goals.

Why hire a life or professional coach?

The reason depends on the individuals. Most individuals hire a life or professional coach for guidance.   The definition for coach is “someone whose job is to teach people to improve at a sport, skill, or school subject”.   The life or professional coach will provide guidance for life or business improvement.

How to find the right coach?

Coaches can be found by conducting an online search, word of mouth or contacting your human resources department for availability. For the right coach, one must conduct research and request an interview.  This person will learn a lot about you, therefore it is important to find someone you can trust.  Many coaches offer an ‘initial free consult’ session.  Be sure to take advantage of the free session.  This should be a time to conduct your interview and align with your needs.

What are the fees for coaching?

Pricing may vary based on the type of coaching.  There are different levels of coaching:  life, professional/leadership and executive coaching.  Pricing is based on the session length.  You should determine what you are willing to pay based upon your needs and self-worth.

How long should I plan for coaching sessions?

The length of coaching is based on individual needs.  I would suggest planning for several weeks of coaching until your initial goal is met.  Many will discover coaching is not just for one concern/issue.  During the coaching sessions, many barriers and/or opportunities are uncovered.  As a result, additional coaching sessions are required.  I would suggest trying not to pinpoint an end date, but to follow the process.

Where are coaching sessions conducted?

There are various options for coaching sessions. Coaching sessions can be held in-person or virtual, based on the client’s location and need.

  • In-person is based on the client’s preference. The sessions could be held in the coach’s office or the client’s office.  A public location is not recommended due to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Online coaching is available via different formats, such as skype, video conferencing, etc.
  • Telephone coaching is also available.

How are coaches different from therapists?

Most coaches are certified and therapists are licensed.  A therapist traces the root cause of an issue to help an individual overcome.   A coach cannot diagnose.  A coach helps the client transform themselves from their present state and identify their potentials.
